Yuki Cherry Blossom® Deutzia – Compact Pink Flowering Shrub

Yuki Cherry Blossom® Deutzia: A Low Ribbon of Pink Spring Flowers

Yuki Cherry Blossom® Deutzia brings soft pink spring flowers to a compact, mounded shrub. Its low profile makes it a useful choice for edging, mixed borders, and grouped plantings where taller shrubs would overwhelm the view.

Picture several plants along a sunny garden edge, creating a ribbon of pink in spring, followed by green summer foliage and burgundy-purple fall tones. This is a flowering shrub, not a cherry tree, with a small-scale form that fits near the front of a planting.

Why Choose Yuki Cherry Blossom®?

  • Pink spring flowers: A seasonal display on a naturally low-growing plant.
  • Compact footprint: Approximately 1–2 feet tall and wide at maturity.
  • Flexible placement: Suits edging, mixed borders, and flowering-groundcover groupings.
  • Fall interest: Foliage can develop burgundy-purple tones before leaf drop.
  • Limited routine pruning: Shaping is seldom needed when the site allows its natural form.

Growing Zones & Mature Size

  • USDA zones: 5–8, following Proven Winners' guidance.
  • Mature planning size: Approximately 1–2 feet tall and wide, depending on conditions and care.
  • Habit: Low and mounded, suitable for planting in groups for a groundcover effect.
  • Seasonal habit: Deciduous; winter leaf coverage and evergreen screening are not expected.
  • Flowering: Spring, with actual timing and display length dependent on regional climate and weather. It is not a continuously flowering summer shrub.

Light, Soil & Water

  • Light: Full sun to part sun. Proven Winners defines full sun as 6 or more hours and part sun as 4–6 hours of direct light daily.
  • Planting site: Choose a well-drained garden bed with room for the mature mound.
  • Water: Average water needs. Check moisture during establishment and dry weather, watering as needed rather than assuming a new planting is maintenance-free.
  • Groundcover use: Group plants according to mature width and the coverage you want. Manage weeds while plants establish; a mature planting is not a guarantee of a weed-free bed.

Available Nursery Sizes

Choose 1 Gallon or 3 Gallon. These are offered nursery-container sizes, not mature dimensions or guaranteed delivery heights. Flowers and fall coloration at arrival depend on season and plant development.

Pruning & Ongoing Care

Blooms on old wood. Pruning is seldom necessary, but if shaping is desired, do so immediately after flowering. Routine cutting in late winter or before spring bloom can remove flower-bearing growth.

Feed in spring if needed with an appropriate fertilizer at its label rate. Allow the natural mound to develop rather than repeatedly shearing it into a formal shape.

On slopes, treat this as an ornamental planting rather than a promise of immediate erosion control. Newly planted shrubs need time to establish and do not replace drainage or stabilization measures where those are required.

For container use, provide root space, drainage holes, regular moisture checks, and winter root protection where needed. In-ground hardiness ratings do not guarantee the same winter performance in an exposed pot.

Choose Yuki Cherry Blossom® Deutzia for a compact flowering accent or a grouped spring display that leaves room for the rest of your garden.
