White Cloud Muhly Grass

White Cloud Muhly Grass: Airy White Plumes for Your Fall Garden

Bring soft texture and gentle movement to your landscape with White Cloud Muhly Grass (Muhlenbergia capillaris 'White Cloud'). Fine green foliage forms a graceful clump through the growing season, then airy white flower plumes rise above it in fall. Plant it where sunlight can catch the blooms, turning a border or garden path into a cloud-like display.

Picture a grouping beside your patio, its delicate plumes swaying in the breeze as summer flowers begin to fade. Dried flower stalks can persist into winter, extending the seasonal interest beyond the fresh bloom display.

Why Choose White Cloud Muhly Grass?

• White fall flowers: Feathery plumes add a light, airy contrast to surrounding plants.
• Fine-textured foliage: A clumping habit adds movement without a heavy visual footprint.
• Drought tolerance once established: A practical choice for sunny gardens with well-drained soil.
• Flexible garden uses: Plant as an accent, repeat along borders, or group for a flowing mass of autumn color.

Growing Zones & Mature Size

• USDA hardiness zones: 6–10 for in-ground growing.
• Mature size: Approximately 3–4 feet tall in flower and 2–3 feet wide.
• Light: Full sun for the best flowering display.
• Soil: Well-drained soil; avoid persistently waterlogged conditions.
• Seasonal interest: Fall flowers, with dried plumes that may remain into winter.

Choose a Single Plant or 2-Pack

Available in 1-gallon size with Single or 2-PACK options. Choose one plant for an accent or the 2-pack to begin a repeating border or grouped planting. Container size is not the plant's mature height.

Planting & Care

Choose a sunny location and water during establishment as the roots settle in. Once established, White Cloud can tolerate periods of drought. Space plants about 3 feet apart on center for a filled-in group, allowing room for each clump to develop. Cut back old foliage in late winter before new spring growth begins.

Choose your pack option to add white fall color, fine texture, and graceful movement to your garden.
