ScentAmazing® Gardenia (Gardenia jasminoides 'Scentamazing') was bred with a single overriding goal: to produce the most intensely fragrant gardenia possible, with a bloom season that extends well beyond what traditional gardenias deliver. Where most gardenias bloom once in late spring and early summer, ScentAmazing® reblooms repeatedly from spring through fall, producing wave after wave of large, creamy white double flowers with the rich, sweet, classic gardenia fragrance that has made this genus one of the most beloved flowering shrubs in the world. Its dense, glossy dark-green evergreen foliage provides year-round structure and beauty, and its improved disease resistance means less maintenance and a healthier, more vigorous plant season after season.
Both are excellent gardenias, but they excel in different areas. ScentAmazing® is the choice for maximum fragrance and an extended reblooming season — it blooms repeatedly spring through fall. Frost Proof is the choice for cold-climate reliability — its frost-resistant buds make it the most dependable bloomer in zone 7 winters. In zones 8–11, ScentAmazing®’s longer bloom season gives it a significant advantage.
Plant in acidic, well-drained soil with good organic matter. If leaves yellow between the veins (interveinal chlorosis), the soil pH is too high — amend with sulfur or use an acidifying fertilizer. Water consistently and deeply; gardenias do not tolerate drought and will drop buds if water-stressed. Fertilize in early spring and again after each bloom flush with an acid-forming fertilizer (azalea/camellia formula). Avoid fertilizing after midsummer. Prune lightly after each bloom flush to shape and encourage the next rebloom cycle.
