Everbearing Mulberry Tree – Sweet Berries All Summer, Self-Fertile & Drought-Tolerant

Everbearing Mulberry Tree – Sweet Berries All Summer, Zero Fuss

Most fruit trees give you a brief window of harvest. The Everbearing Mulberry Tree gives you months. Producing sweet, plump, dark mulberries continuously from early summer through the first frost, this is one of the most productive and low-maintenance fruiting trees you can grow — and one of the most generous with its harvest.

Self-fertile, drought-tolerant, and adaptable to a wide range of climates and soils, the Everbearing Mulberry is a true workhorse of the edible landscape. Available from compact 6–8 inch starter plants through established 4–5 ft. trees, with money-saving 2-Packs for maximum production.

Why You’ll Love the Everbearing Mulberry Tree

  • Continuous Harvest: Produces sweet, dark mulberries from early summer through the first frost — months of fresh fruit vs. the brief window of most fruiting trees
  • Exceptionally Sweet Flavor: Rich, sweet, blackberry-like flavor with a juicy, melt-in-your-mouth texture — delicious fresh, frozen, in jams, pies, and smoothies
  • Self-Fertile: One tree produces a full, abundant harvest — no pollination partner needed
  • Drought-Tolerant: Once established, highly drought-tolerant — thrives with minimal supplemental watering in most climates
  • Fast-Growing: One of the fastest-growing fruiting trees available — can add 3–6 ft. of growth per year under good conditions
  • Wildlife-Friendly: Berries attract songbirds, butterflies, and beneficial insects — a natural hub of garden biodiversity
  • Adaptable: Tolerates a wide range of soils, including clay, sandy, and loamy — one of the least fussy fruiting trees available
  • Long-Lived: A well-sited mulberry tree can produce abundantly for decades

Choosing Your Size

  • 6–8 inches / 1 Gallon: Starter size — most affordable entry point, establishes quickly and grows rapidly. Best for patient growers who enjoy watching a tree develop from an early stage
  • 3 Gallon: Mid-size established plant — a great balance of value and head start. Begins producing sooner than starter sizes
  • 4–5 ft.: Our most established size — makes an immediate landscape impact and begins fruiting the soonest. Best for growers who want results quickly
  • 2-Pack: Available at 1 Gallon and 3 Gallon sizes — plant two for a denser canopy, more fruit, and a faster-establishing grove

Growing Zones & Care Guide

  • USDA Hardiness Zones: Zones 4–10. The Everbearing Mulberry is one of the most widely adaptable fruiting trees available — thriving across an enormous range of climates from cold northern gardens to warm southern landscapes.
  • Sunlight: Full sun to partial shade. Full sun (6+ hours daily) produces the heaviest crops and sweetest fruit. Tolerates partial shade with reduced but still respectable yields.
  • Watering: Water regularly during the first growing season to establish roots. Once established, Everbearing Mulberry is highly drought-tolerant — deep, infrequent watering is preferred. Tolerates occasional wet conditions better than most fruiting trees.
  • Soil: Exceptionally adaptable — clay, sandy, loamy, and even slightly alkaline soils are all tolerated. Well-draining soil is preferred but not strictly required. One of the most soil-tolerant fruiting trees available.
  • Fertilizing: Light feeding with a balanced fertilizer in early spring. Established trees in fertile soil often need little to no fertilization — avoid over-fertilizing, which promotes excessive vegetative growth over fruit production.
  • Pruning: Prune in late winter to shape the tree and remove any dead or crossing branches. Mulberries fruit on new growth — light annual pruning encourages vigorous new wood and consistent yields. Can be kept as a compact shrub or trained into a standard tree form depending on your preference.
  • Staining Note: Ripe mulberries stain hands, clothing, and surfaces. Plant away from patios, walkways, and driveways, or place a tarp beneath the canopy at harvest time.
  • Harvest Window: Early summer through first frost. Berries ripen progressively — harvest every few days by gently shaking branches over a tarp or sheet. Fully ripe berries release easily and are deep purple-black in color.

Pair It With Another High-Yield Fruiting Plant

Love vigorous, self-fertile, heavy-producing plants? Our Prolific Kiwi Vine is another exceptional self-fertile producer — cold-hardy to Zone 3 and capable of yielding 50–100+ lbs of smooth-skinned kiwis per season. Together, they make an extraordinary edible landscape for serious home growers.

Continuous harvest, zero fuss, and decades of productivity — the Everbearing Mulberry Tree is one of the most rewarding fruiting trees you can add to any garden.
