Czechmark Trilogy® Weigela: White-to-Pink Flowers on One Shrub
Czechmark Trilogy® Weigela (Weigela florida) creates a multicolored spring display as individual flowers open white, mature to pink, and deepen to rich pink. Because the clusters open gradually, several shades can appear together on the same plant.
Picture a rounded shrub beside a garden path, its changing blooms bringing fresh color as spring unfolds. After flowering, apple-green foliage provides a backdrop for shorter perennials and seasonal companions.
Why Choose Czechmark Trilogy®?
-
Changing flower colors: White, pink, and deep-pink tones can share the shrub during bloom.
-
Compact landscape scale: Suits mixed borders, cottage gardens, and low informal hedges.
-
Spring highlight: The main display occurs in late spring to early summer.
-
Natural shape: Regular clipping is not required to maintain its habit.
-
Pollinator appeal: The breeder lists it as attracting pollinators.
Growing Zones & Mature Size
-
USDA zones: 4–8, following Proven Winners ColorChoice guidance.
-
Mature planning size: Approximately 3–3½ feet tall and wide, depending on conditions and care.
-
Seasonal habit: Deciduous; drops its leaves and becomes dormant in winter.
-
Flower expectations: Some sporadic later flowers may occur, but a continuous summer display is not guaranteed. The changing shades are white to deep pink, rather than a promise of distinctly red blooms.
Light, Soil & Water
-
Light: Full sun, at least 6 hours daily, gives the strongest flower display. Some shade can be tolerated, especially in hotter climates.
-
Soil: Adaptable to most well-drained soils. Avoid sites that stay wet.
-
Water: Average water needs. Monitor moisture during establishment and dry spells, adjusting watering to rainfall and drainage.
-
Feeding: If needed, use a granular fertilizer formulated for woody plants in late winter or early spring, following its label.
Available Nursery Sizes
Choose 1 Gallon or 3 Gallon. These are offered nursery-container sizes, not mature dimensions or guaranteed delivery heights. Flowers at arrival, an immediate multicolor display, and first-season bloom are not guaranteed.
Pruning & Long-Term Care
Blooms on old wood. Routine shaping is unnecessary, but if desired, prune immediately after flowering. Avoid repeated pre-bloom shearing that removes flower-bearing growth.
The breeder recommends periodic rejuvenation every three to five years by removing about one-third of the oldest, thickest branches at ground level. This is selective renewal rather than a requirement to cut the entire shrub down.
Reported deer resistance does not make it deer-proof. Continue to monitor plant health and browsing pressure rather than treating low maintenance as no maintenance.
For containers, provide adequate root space, drainage, and closer moisture monitoring. Plan winter root protection where needed; in-ground hardiness ratings do not guarantee equivalent survival in an exposed pot.
Choose Czechmark Trilogy® Weigela for a compact spring-flowering accent with changing pink-and-white tones and a naturally tidy form.
