Bolt them together around your tree. Make sure the soil is loose, center the ring and drive in with a hammer and a piece of wood.
Doesn't get any easier and so much better than other plastic rings.
These provide a crisp edge for trimming and a hard border to help retain mulch.

These pins work as expected. One issue I had to remedy (as the other reviewer stated) was that when fully hammered down, the head of the pin being larger and round, would tilt the edging away when it came into contact with the edging surface about an inch or two before it was fully seated through the clip. I took all my pins to work with me and using a belt sander I placed a flat on one side of the pin head. Now, it can sit flush up against the edging surface when fully driven down into the soil. No Tilt!
